Tonight was the annual dinner for the Southern Maryland Delegation to meet with the Board of Trustees of the College of Southern Maryland. The Board updated the Delegation on their plans for the future and also discussed how the economic downturn had affected their plans and also their hopes that the economic stimulus package for education would have additional funds for education.
There are several bills this year which affect the community college: textbook costs and publishing the class requirements, BRAC preparations which will affect both students and colleges, and proposals for workforce development plans. I was glad to see Dr. Gottfried and get his views of these matters.
We are lucky to have such a vibrant and progressive college in Charles County to help our residents get either their first steps in higher education or training in a wide range of areas that often lead to better jobs.
