Delegate Peter Murphy … supporting our next generation’s dreams
Delegate Scholarship Award Process
Scholarship Applications are accepted from February 1st to April 15th in a given year for the next school year. Charles County, District 28 residents who are high school seniors, present college students, graduate students, and those returning to college are eligible for awards. Only complete applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.
Scholarships are awarded based on need, community involvement, present scholastic standing, and initiative in financing an education. Applicants must attend Maryland colleges or universities, or have approval from the Maryland Higher Education Committee (MHEC) for a unique major.
Successful applicants are notified during the first week in June of their awards for the following school year by Delegate Murphy’s office. Awardees will also be contacted by MHEC via e-mail by the first week in August to notify them that their scholarships have been put into the system. At that point, each of these students is required to go into their online MHEC account to accept the scholarship for attendance at their chosen school.
Contact with the Financial Aid Office at the student’s college or university must be made by the student once the semester begins. After the “drop date” for classes, the colleges and universities will contact MHEC and the funds will be transferred to the school. The Financial Aid Office will be able to access the scholarship funds for the student, and direct them toward the requested use. No checks or monies will be sent to students.
Please print copies of the forms listed below and read the instructions carefully. New for this year’s application is an added required resume as well. Remember, only complete applications will be reviewed.
