Delegate Scholarship Award Process
Scholarship Applications are accepted from February 1st to April 15th in a given year for the next school year. Charles County, District 28 residents who are high school seniors, present college students, graduate students, and those returning to college are eligible for awards. Only complete applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. The committee members all live outside of Charles County to minimize any issue of favoritism. Scholarships are awarded based on need, community involvement, present scholastic standing, and area of career interest. Applicants must attend Maryland colleges or universities, or have approval from the Maryland Higher Education Committee (MHEC) for a unique major.
Successful applicants are notified during the first week in June of their awards for the following school year. Awardees will be contacted by the MHEC by the first week in August to see if they accept the awards. Students should sign the letter and return a copy to the MHEC. A copy of the award acceptance letter should be given to the college or university where the student attends. After the “drop date” for classes, the colleges and universities will contact MHEC and the funds will be transferred between budgets. No checks or monies will be sent to students.
Please print copies of the forms listed below and read the instructions carefully. Remember, only complete applications will be reviewed.
