Murphy Scholarship Awards for 2009
Delegate Peter Murphy announced that six high school seniors in Charles County had received $1,000 awards under the Delegate Scholarship Program. All six are Charles County residents planning on attending Maryland schools in the fall: Kristen Lamb, Lackey; Courtney Potter, La Plata; Brittany McCullum, McDonough; Evelyn Brooke, North Point; Jessica Gause, Thomas Stone; and Lucrecia Middleton, Westlake.
All are planning for careers in the Medical and Science fields, and these awards hopefully will encourage more students to consider medical careers and return to Charles County and Maryland for their practice. There is a huge shortage of medical professionals in the Southern Maryland area.
The total amount of scholarship awards this year was $37,000. These awards are presented to high school seniors, present college students, graduate students, and those returning to college.
