I was so very pleased and proud that the Lackey High School 2011 Student Spaceflight Experiment Program (SSEP) Team came to Annapolis tonight to receive both a citation from the Charles County Delegation and a House Resolution on the floor of the State House for their amazing achievement. As the Delegation Chair, I was honored to initiate these accolades, and to present them in acknowledgment of their science experiment which was one of only 11 chosen out of 530 proposals nationally to be performed aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-135, the last NASA space shuttle mission. Their experiment investigated the effect of microgravity on the growth of plant structures during seed germination, and was judged by experts in the field for inclusion on the flight. Congratulations to the team members Courtney Buckman, Charles Campbell, Kristen Conyers, Devon Johnson, Christine Kim, Chinyere McKoy-Nwachukwu, Sam Paras, Sydney Scott, Paul Warren, and Deborah Cline; but also Lackey science teachers and team coordinators Romulo Gabriel and Lara North on a fine job. Well done!
